Christopher Dennis Mitchell
04/09/1993 - 08/02/2025
With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Christopher Dennis Mitchell, who went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2025, at the age of 32. Chris passed away peacefully in his sleep in Midland, Texas, where he and his wife, Kaylee, had lived since moving there just one year ago.
A beloved husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, godfather mentor, and friend, Chris lived with deep faith, quiet strength, and a generous spirit that touched everyone he encountered. He was a true shepherd-leading not with fanfare, but with humility, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to love and serve well. His favorite phrase, spoken often and lived fully, was: "Be great."
Chris was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He was shaped by its music, culture, and people. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School and went on to study at both Roosevelt University, Chicago State University and Moody Bible Institute. A gifted leader and award-winning musician, he served his academic communities as NAACP President and Class President, and became the youngest leader of his fraternity. His incredible work ethic and natural leadership earned him the nickname "the metric breaker" in sales, but his true measure of success was loving people well.
On March 22, 2022, Chris married the love of his life, Kaylee Joy Mitchell. He often said that marrying Kaylee was his greatest achievement-one he never imagined possible-being loved by someone so beautiful, inside and out. Their life together was filled with laughter, deep conversation, prayer, music, two spoiled cats, and an unshakable partnership rooted in God's grace.
Chris deeply valued family. He took his roles as a son, cousin, godfather, uncle, grandson, and husband with great seriousness and pride. He was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, loved making music, playing board games and video games, stargazing, and had a deep appreciation for food from all cultures.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Kaylee Joy Mitchell, and his mother, Crystalynn Carter. He is also survived by his siblings Dennisha Mitchell, Kennis Mitchell, Kaia Calvin, and Parish Jr. (PJ) Green; his grandmothers Warnell Mitchell and Linda Calvin; mother-in-law Leah Clancy; sister-in-law Anna Clancy; brothers-in-law Ky Clancy and Micah Clancy; and grandparents-in-law Dennis and Marian London.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Mitchell, and father-in-law, Daniel Clancy.
Chris leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and unwavering faith. His life was a light to all who knew him, and his impact will be felt for generations.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, TX.
To honor Chris: love boldly, serve humbly, wear colorful socks, chase joy, make music, and above all - be great.
