Glynn Cunningham Obituary

Glynn Howell Cunningham of Crane passed from this world into the loving arms of his Savior on December 15, 2014. He was born, the son of Wylie and Gracie Cunningham in Greenville, Texas on April 10, 1932. He was a proud navy veteran of the Korean War from 1951-1955. He married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Tidwell on September 24, 1955. They built a lifetime of memories in their 59 years, all but the first four in Crane. He worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas, then ARCO, until his retirement in 1985. Several years later, he started a contract pumping business and finally retired at the age of 80. Glynn had a huge servant heart. He appreciated and respected everyone and everything, even a stranger and every meal he ate because "it was the best meal he had ever had," or so he told the cook. "Gentle" is the single word to describe what made him so special. Soft spoken and kind, he voiced authentic prayers at each meal with family and friends. Unselfishly he committed untold acts of kindness. As his children were growing up, their friends became his family - whether he knew them for 10 years or 10 minutes. He loved and served his family well, but more importantly, he lived out his faith every single day because He loved, served, and glorified his Maker in every decision he made and action he took. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Vivian, Veta and Gracie. He is survived by his wife, four children, Michael and his wife Pamela, Cheryl and her husband J.T., Greg and his wife Leslie, and Brian and his wife Susie, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Billy and his wife, Zella of San Antonio. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 at Schaffer Nichols Funeral Home in Crane. A celebration of Glynn's life will follow on Thursday, December 18th at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Crane. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church in Crane or to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society at M D Anderson.

A true witness for Christ and an example for so many young people in Crane to emulate. Enjoy your reward in heaven. We know the first words he heard at heaven's gate from the Lord was "Well done, good and faithful servant".

Gentle certainly describes Glynn, but he was also extremely patient. As our RA leader at First Baptist Crane, he managed to ride herd on a rowdy bunch of 6th graders, teaching us everything from engraving leather belts to wood-burning (without actually burning any structures down in the process!). But he also taught us about the power there is in a quiet calm demeaner when facing any situation. It didn't matter what we did, he never raised his voice or got upset with us. I haven't thought about those days in quite some time but he and his beautiful family helped shape my future. I will always be in his debt.
