Marilyn Smith Obituary

Marilyn Jo Brewer Smith
01/21/1939 - 03/07/2025
Marilyn Jo Brewer Smith was born on January 21, 1939, in Monahans, Texas, to Arvel J. Brewer and Willie Brewer Mason.
She lived a beautiful and fulfilling 86 years before passing away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Midland, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Marilyn spent her childhood in Jal, New Mexico, where she excelled academically and was deeply involved in extracurricular activities. A natural leader, she served as Class President at Jal High School. After moving to Midland, she continued her leadership as Class President at Midland High School. Her hardworking and kind spirit earned her many lifelong friends.
On October 5, 1956, Marilyn married her true love, Dale Smith. They shared 49 wonderful years together and raised four sons in Midland, Texas. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother who wholeheartedly embraced her role, always cheering on her boys, standing by their side through every challenge, and encouraging them to stay rooted in faith.
She worked as a lab technician for 25 years while raising her children. Later, she pursued a career in real estate, where she became one of the most successful agents in the Permian Basin. Her passion and talent for the field were unmatched, earning her numerous awards and the admiration of fellow real estate professionals. Despite her success, Marilyn remained humble, generously giving a portion of her earnings to charities and local organizations.
Faith played a central role in Marilyn's life. One of her greatest joys was leading a Bible study for young girls. She also wrote poetry, sponsored and helped many women. She was a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Marilyn was admired for her classy style, beauty, and intelligence, qualities that shined in every aspect of her life. Whether she was closing a real estate deal, supporting her family, or sharing her faith, she carried herself with grace and warmth. She had a remarkable ability to brighten every room she entered, leaving everyone she met with a smile.
In 2022, Marilyn moved to a retirement village, where she met Ross Champion. Their love blossomed, and at 83, Marilyn married Ross, who was 92, on October 22, 2022. They shared a beautiful year and a half together.
She loved being called MawMaw by her grandchildren: Trenton, Cliffton, Clayton, Jessica, Dustie, Staci Jo, Chad, Justin, Veronica and Felecia. She was also blessed with 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Kelly Scott Smith, (Paula Smith); her sister, Arvella Wade (Tony Wade); and her brother, Gerald Bob Brewer. She was a beloved member of One Hope Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arvel Brewer and Willie Brewer Mason; her husbands, Dale Smith and Ross Champion; her sons, Trenton Smith, Blake Smith, and Jeff Smith; and her sister, Gay Kelley Celer.

Marilyn and I were "Candy Stripers" (Junior Hospital Auxiliary) at MMH together in 1955-56. She excelled in everything she did and became a Lab Tech. What a joy she was to me all those years. I attended her second wedding to Mr. Champion. We had a joyous reunion. I shall always remember her fondly.
