James Franklin O'Rear

James “Jimmy” Franklin O’Rear, 73, of Jal gained his wings on March 16, 2024. Born January 13, 1951 in Leakey Tx to Jesse Frank and Vera Loraine O’Rear, Jimmy was a wonderfully supportive husband, father, and grandfather, lovingly known to many as Dad or Papa. Jimmy graduated from Jal High School in 1970 and married his high school sweetheart, Linda in 1971. A love of welding that began in his high school shop class turned in to a successful career that spanned nearly 50 years. As a perfectionist who took great pride in his work, Jimmy made a lasting impression on all those he met and worked with. He enjoyed teaching others the art of welding and his legacy lives on in the careers and hobbies of his family. Jimmy’s favorite pastimes were hunting arrowheads and spending time with family and friends. He never passed up an opportunity to share a great story, and if you missed hearing one on your first visit, you were sure to get another chance on your next. Jimmy also had a heart for all animals, large and small. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda O’Rear, his son Michael O’Rear, his daughter Misty Cox and her husband James, his brother Tim O’Rear and his wife Sandra, and his sister Lou Anna Haire and her husband James Odie. He is also survived by 4 grandsons, Cameron Cox, Kyle Cox, Nathan O’Rear and Ethan O’Rear, and one great granddaughter, Raelynn Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Frank and Vera Loraine O’Rear. A graveside memorial will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Jal Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family at the Jal Community Center following the service.
