Michael Ditmore Obituary

Michael "Mike" Steve Ditmore, 71, of Midland, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, May 22, 2018, while surrounded by his loved ones. Memorial Services will be held, Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Midland with Pastor Kurt Borden officiating. A private burial in Eunice, N.M. will be set at a later date. Born in Hobbs, N.M. on March 21, 1947, Mike was the son of William Ray Ditmore and Mary Lucy Misenheimer. He was a proud graduate of Eunice High School in 1965. He attended Eastern New Mexico University and New Mexico Junior College before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country from 1967-1969 and was a Vietnam Veteran. Mike was the smile that lit up every room he ever entered. He was a guitar picker by heart and cherished time spent with the those he loved the most. He loved playing the guitar and entertaining any crowd he could gather. Golfing, water skiing, fishing and hunting were some of his other favorite pastimes spent with friends and family. Mike worked in the oil industry when he returned from Vietnam as a pipeliner and retired as a crude oil buyer. Family and friends were his treasures this side of heaven. He touched the lives of others with his infectious smile and bright light the Lord blessed him with. To be loved by him was unmatched. Though he loved us here with a big heart and huge smile, in the end, his love for Jesus was greater than all. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Midland, Green Tree Country Club, The American Legion and supported countless charities, especially those involved with Veterans. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lucy Ditmore and William Ray Ditmore. He is survived by his son, Jarrod Ditmore and wife Lori Ditmore of Portland, Oregon; daughter, M'Lee Merket and husband, Quentin Merket of Ackerly, TX.; and Myka Finlay Ditmore of Midland, TX.; sister, Rhonda Lowdermilk and husband Marlon (Shorty) Lowdermilk of Arizona; grandchildren, Payton and Maddox Merket and Logan Ditmore; nephews, Chad and Jeremy Lowdermilk; great nephews, Hunter and Peyton Lowdermilk and Kayle and Connor Lowdermilk; great niece, Kailyn Lowdermilk; and countless cousins family and friends. The family suggests memorials be given to the VA or Veteran organization of your choice or charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Dr.'s and nurses at the VA Hospital in Big Spring, and in the ICU at UMC in Lubbock, TX for the tender, loving care they provided him. It will never be forgotten. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign his guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.

I meet Mike when he worked for TNM pipeline in Lamesa. He was a true man of God. He was my son's baseball coach and made sure all the kids played. He would use the phone in the office I worked at to call his "Bride". Sorry for your loss

Mike always had a smile on his face and was glad to see you. I got to know him when he came to see my boss. My condolences to the family. He was a great person and he loved his family and life itself. The Lord gained an angel and he is watching over all of you.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's always heartbreaking when you lose a loved one. One day there'll be a time where we don't have to deal with pain, loss, & suffering. God definitely did not intend for us to be living in a world of pain like we do today. Your family are in my thoughts.
