Pamela Isom Obituary

Memorial services for Pamela K. Isom, 71, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton, Texas. Pam Isom, wife, mother, teacher, flea marketer, home-economist, chef, entertainer and accomplished home decorator died Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Pam was born on June 20, 1946, in Big-D, the daughter of horologist V.Z. Lindley and expert of East Texas sayings, Pat Lindley. She grew up in Tyler, Texas. While at TJC she perfected the high-kick and her internationally famous Apache Belle smile. Later, she graduated from Sam Houston State, before committing all the Aggie yells to heart while picking up a master's degree from Texas A&M University. She married Bill Isom February 16, 1985 in Tyler, TX, before moving to Midland, TX, where she continued teaching. She and her husband helped establish Teen Community Bible Study (CBS), and her "$1 per teen" recipes are now used in the international training manual. Not one for formality, she preferred to be called Pam, although President wouldn't have been inappropriate. PTA, football booster club, symphony belles-you name it, she led it. She harped on the importance of personal responsibility, telling her kids, "If you're getting into trouble, I pray you get caught. And if you get arrested, I'm not bailing you out." -A threat never tested. "I'm home!" was bellowed by more than just family. Friends and neighbors took full advantage of an open door policy, paying little attention to a neglected doorbell. Dinner was always ready around 6:00, and if you were there you sat at the table and picked up a fork. Old chairs, broken frames, scraps of fabric, mismatched dishesYes please. These weren't things for the trash heap. With her imagination and her husband's elbow grease, Martha Stewart didn't stand a chance. That way of thinking applied to the people around her as well. If you had any good in you, she saw it, and made sure you did too. Her dedicated husband, Bill Isom, lives in Belton. And her four kids, Matthew Glimore, Patrick Isom, Libby Schanzmeyer and Christie Isom live in Seattle, Round Rock, Belton and Austin, respectively. But it was her nine grandkids that brought out her Apache Belle smile every time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, Florida 33131. "Let's make cookies!"

Mrs. Isom was an absolute wonderful teacher! She knew so much more about you than what you did. While I was her student, and Chairman of Ready, Set, Go, I told her that I did not want a special ed class because I did not think that I could handle it. I was too scared to do it. Next thing I knew, I was "accidently" placed into a classroom that was a special needs classroom. One of my best placements ever!!! She made us see what we thought we couldn't as well as face our fears, or so what we thought were fears. She had the ability to teach you so much with so little to say. I would go to her with a question, she would have me talk it out and before I knew it, I answered my own question everytime. She was one of my absolute favorite teachers and I am so very sad to hear of this. Prayers to the family, you truly lost a wonderful woman but gained an extraordinary angel!

I am so sad to learn that Pam is gone. I so enjoyed the years that we taught "together" - when she was at Lee and I was at MHS. And we knew we had the best co-op program in Texas! She was a delightful friend and fellow educator. My sincere sympathy goes out to Bill and her kids and grandkids.

Pam was such an amazing woman! She taught me so much in the two years she was my teacher at Lee. She always thought I had potential, and helped set me up with several jobs over the years. She has definitely left this world a better place than it was when she found it! She is loved, and will be missed.
