Samuel Roberts Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Samuel (Sam) C. Roberts, 64, of Midland, Texas on Jan. 30, 2023. Sam was a kind and generous person, who connected well with others, was accepting of everyone, and had boundless patience. He especially loved to spend time with the young ones in his family and community, including countless hours playing outdoors, teaching them about hunting and sports, and just letting them be kids. Born in Lucedale, Mississippi, Sam grew up hunting and fishing with family and friends, and eventually earned his BS in Petroleum Engineering at Mississippi State University. He worked in the petroleum field for 44 years, most recently at Great Western Drilling Co. of Midland, where his ingenuity and expertise earned him the respect of his peers. He retired in the spring of 2022. Sam is survived by his loving wife, Beverly L. Roberts of Midland, stepdaughter Megan Rutherford (Gerry Woodbury), granddaughter Ava Woodbury, siblings M. Elizabeth Goff (Ronnie Goff), Ruth N. Smith (Jeffrey Smith), Stephen D. Roberts (Charlene Roberts), brother-in-law Bill Brown Jr. (Jerilynn Brown), and 12 nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Franklin C. and N. Mae Roberts and brother Daniel F. Roberts. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 9th at American Heritage Funeral Home (4100 N. FM 1788, Midland, TX 79707) with a viewing at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations to his favorite charities, West Texas Food Bank, Feed the Children, and the Salvation Army.
