Sandra Lee Dement

1948 - 2021

June 28, 1948 - July 11, 2021 Sandra Lee Dement, age 73, of Burnet, Texas, died peacefully Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Park Place Health Care Center in Georgetown, Texas. As was Sandra's nature, she had her body donated to Anatomy Gifts Registry so that her body might help others in some small way. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the chapel of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021. Sandra was born June 28, 1948 in Hobbs, New Mexico, first child of four children to Harold Lloyd Ledbetter and Ella Lee (Feldman) Ledbetter. By 1950 Sandra and her parents moved to Midland, Texas where she welcomed her brother Jimmy, in September of that year. She enjoyed a happy, busy childhood filled with many trips to the lake to swim and ski with family and Kansas to be with lots of cousins. When she was eleven, she was involved in a tragic accident where she lost her left leg above the knee. Sheer determination and faith pulled her through this challenging time in her life, and that determination continued throughout her life. Don't tell her "You can't do that", because then she was even more determined to prove she could. She married after high school and had two beautiful children. When her children were young, she married the love of her life, Sam Dement, whom she loved for 40 years. Throughout her life she yearned to help those less fortunate and in the 1990s obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Masters in Special Education from the University of New Mexico to become a Special Education teacher of life skills. She also spent countless hours mentoring those affected by alcoholism, through Ala-teen and Ala-non. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lloyd and Lee Ledbetter. She is survived by her husband, Sam Dement of Burnet, Texas; siblings, Jim Ledbetter and wife LV of Midland, Texas, Deborah Holt and husband Bruce of McGregor, Texas and Larry Ledbetter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; children, Marena Crutchfield and husband, Fred of Midland, Texas and Randy Crutchfield and wife Robin of Midland, Texas; grandchildren: Joshua Burrow and wife Kristin, Sarah and Hannah Crutchfield, Chaz Crutchfield and wife Traci Lynn, Chase Crutchfield and wife Jody.
