Edith Alane Dement

Edith Alane "Edie" Dement, 56, of Calhoun, Louisiana passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at her residence with her loving family at her side.
Edie was born on March 21, 1969, in West Monroe to Virdie Mae Dowd and Ronald Dean Dowd. Edie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She enjoyed hunting and loved the outdoors. She drove a school bus for the Ouachita Parish Schools for twenty-five years and loved getting to know her children on each route. She was a private sitter and loved caring for her patients. She lost her long battle to cancer; she will be deeply missed but not forgotten.
Edie was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Dean Dowd; son, Cody Wayne Dement; grandparents, James J. Myres, Lula Mae Myres, E. Roy Dowd and M. Estelle Dowd; her stepfather, Harold E. McCormick
Edie is survived by her son, Caleb Carton Dement, her mother, Virdie M. McCormick; siblings, Kimberly A. Ford and her husband Herman, Sharon R. Boothe and her husband, Michael; Ronald L. Dowd and his wife Tammy; half-brother, Anthony Dowd and his wife Dana; two grandchildren, Waylon McCrae Carlton Dement and Addisyn Myles Dement; a host of nieces and nephew; co-workers and friends who treasured her and will always remember her.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Griffin Funeral Home in West Monroe. Private family cremation services will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who helped take care of Edie during her final days. Your love and sacrifice meant so much to her and to her family as it gave her warmth, comfort and a show of your love and kindness! GOD BLESS all of you who cared for her in her final days and hours. Love all of you so much. You are all ANGELS!!
