William DeMent, age 71, of Woonsocket and formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. Per William’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
William, better known as Bill or Billy boy, was born to Willard DeMent and Helen Fischer in April 1951. Bill grew up in Sioux City, and like most other boys filled his time with fishing and baseball. After graduating he married his high school sweetheart, Susan. Although they didn't stay married, they raised 3 children, Penny Spoonemore, Becky Muscato, and Joseph DeMent. Bill went on to marry Betty Mastbergen in 1999, and the next year they welcomed another son Jonathan DeMent. Bill and Betty remained married until her passing in 2021.
Over his 74 years of life Bill enjoyed fishing, baseball, watching wrestling, spending time with his children, and of course his beloved dog.
William is preceded in death by his father Willard DeMent, mother Helen Fischer, stepmother Opal DeMent, Susan DeMent, Betty DeMent and brother Larry DeMent.
He passes his love onto his remaining family of 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his brother Robert DeMent and sister Cindy Duplex.
