Phyllis Darlene (Hauge) Tschetter was born on February 4, 1936 to Tom and Minnie (Wait) Hauge at Wessington Springs, South Dakota. She had two brothers, Robert and Roland Hauge and seven half-brothers from her father’s first marriage. Phyllis went to Wessington Springs grade school and graduated from Wessington Springs High School, class of 1954.

She lived with her grandparents, Link and Martha Wait, starting in middle school through high school. Her grandmother Martha was her greatest influence and inspiration.

Phyllis married Ted McHenry on June 24, 1956. To this union, two children were born, Terry and Janet. They lived in Wessington Springs, Huron, Aberdeen, Washington state and Rapid City. They later divorced.

She married Eli Tschetter on July 24, 1985 and he unfortunately passed away eight years after their marriage.

Phyllis worked in retail business her entire life. Her first job was at the K and K in Wessington Springs and after they closed, she worked at Ben Franklin in Huron. When living in Rapid City, she worked at Newberry’s and then at Newberry’s in Huron. She also worked at Snyder Drug and retired from Lewis Drug in Huron. Her most favorite times were spent with family, enjoying grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid animal lover but preferred cats and always had one or two in her home.

Survivors include two children, Terry (Marilyn) McHenry of Huron and Janet (Guy) Pinneo of Issaquah, Washington; three grandchildren, Becky Dragt of Huron, Chris (Becca) McHenry of Aberdeen, and Emily Pinneo of Issaquah, Washington; eight great-grandchildren Kierra (Mark) Navurskis, Conner, Courtney, Kayden Dragt of Huron and Ian, Alexis, Erin and Isaac McHenry of Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eli Tschetter; and brothers Robert and Roland Hauge and Dennis Palmer.
