Thomas Fisher Obituary

FISHER, Thomas W. - A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, gracefully passed away on February 20, 2019 at the age of 76 in Flower Mound, Texas after battling Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive type of brain tumor. Tom was a gregarious man whom everyone adored. His quick wit and considerate temperament endeared him to people instantly. Born in Refugio, TX on February 4, 1943 to Guy Wesley "Bud" Fisher, a geophysicist, and Lois Adere "Bebe" Williams, a lover of theater. Tom was the eldest child with two brothers, Mike and John, and his sister Mary Fisher Berry. Much of Tom's youth was spent in various places around the world. He attended school in Switzerland, Wheelus High School in Tripoli, Libya, and graduated from Dallas Hillcrest, class of 1961. Following his mother's love of theater, he worked as both a stage manager and set painter at Midland Community Theater. Tom attended Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. His love of science and astronomy led him to regularly track the space station and various celestial and planetary events with his beloved 75mm Unitron refracting telescope. Tom received a commission in the United States Army in 1968 and was proud to have served as an Artillery Officer and 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. In 1970, Tom married, Jeriann Franklin. They were together 48 years until his passing. They had three children, Amanda, Kimberly, and Matthew, and became grandparents to three. Tom's career as a Software Engineer spanned several decades, and included diverse projects in aerospace, geoscience, and many other fields. After retiring, Tom became a substitute teacher for the Lewisville Independent School District in North Texas. The Lewisville area became his home for 34 years. Tom was an avid model railroad enthusiast and spent much of his time sculpting his massive N-Scale train set. This passion brought him tremendous joy. He was a longtime member of the Denton Area Model Railroad Club and served as the group's president for several years. Tom is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his sister and brother, John. A service will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on March 1, 2019 at 15:15.

This man was my favorite and most beloved person in the world to me. Although death was the only cure for his illness, I'm so, so sad, every day, and I miss him. I am so proud of him and his whole life. He inspired mot of my big choices. I love you, Popa.
