Effie Lou Marion Draughn, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday evening, May 24, 2024, at Village Care of King surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Draughn was born on Dec. 27, 1937, in Surry County to the late Nathaniel and Euna Belle Marion Marion. Effie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Jimmy Nathan Draughn; daughter and son-in-law, Julia "Jill" Draughn Fansler and husband, John; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff Draughn and wife Mary; five grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Nellie Marion Thomas and husband, Terry, Ruth Marion McHone; and brother and sister-in-law, Charles Marion and wife Donna; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Draughn was preceded in death by two infant twin sons, Randall and Rex Watson; two sisters, Geneva "Pete" Marion Rachels, Edythe Marion Draughn; an infant brother, Russell G. Marion; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Draughn, and Buddy McHone. A graveside service was held on Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery and Mr. Rudy Draughn officiated. No formal visitation was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1022, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030-1022.
