Mr. Jacob "Jay" Hartsock, 49 of Cana, VA passed away at the Hock Hospice Pavilion in Durham, NC on Thursday, November 27, 2014. He was born in Montgomery County, VA on October 22, 1965 to Patricia Quesinberry Hartsock and the late Jacob Alfred "Jake" Hartsock, Sr.. Jay was a graduate of Carroll County High School where he was an active member of the local 4-H Club. He graduated from Radford University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Jay held numerous managerial positions during his career, Shoney's, Western Steer, Sagebrush and most recently, Staples. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and seeking every opportunity to be a part of the daily lives of his adoring little nieces. Jay's vibrant personality lit up every room he entered and brought joy to all who knew him. In addition to his mother, Jay is survived by his brother, Perry Hartsock; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann Bartley and Dan; two cherished nieces, Amelia and Leia; and best friend, Pierce Nifong. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. All other services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, NC Chapter, 4530 Park Rd., Suite 240, Charlotte, NC 28209.
