Roger Lee Bowman, 75, of King, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Bowman was born on Aug. 18, 1946, in Surry County to the late Ausby and Lois Branch Bowman Smith. After obtaining his education in the Mount Airy City School system, Roger began his working career in Winston-Salem. Returning to Mount Airy, Roger worked at the Mount Airy Furniture factory before joining Cross Creek Apparel where he retired after many years of service. Roger was a kind, gentle and simple man. He loved Godzilla and John Wayne movies, oatmeal cookies and moon pies, Diet Cokes, and ink pens. He had the memory of an elephant and the wit of a comedian. Roger will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Left to cherish his memories are his sister, Carlene "Polly" Bowman; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and a long-time friend, Deborah York. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a sister, Winona "Nonie" Bowman, and a brother, Rocky Smith. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens with Pastor Chris Oakley officiating. No formal visitation was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Village Care for their special care and love given to Roger during his years of residency. Roger loved his home at Village Care and could most often be found in the lobby welcoming all who entered. Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is serving the family.
