Donna Lutey Obituary

Donna Lutey

March 16, 1939 - November 28, 2025

On November 28, 2025, our beloved "GiGi, Nana, Mom, Wife & Friend", Donna Lutey, passed away peacefully at Community Hospital of Anaconda. Donna was born in Butte, Montana on March 16th, 1939 to John E. Harrington and Helen Powers Harrington. She was one of six children. Donna stayed active while attending St. Mary's Catholic School including playing Volleyball and Softball. She was known for her fun and outgoing spirit.

Donna married the love of her life, Gene Lutey, on February 6th, 1959. Together they built an amazing life and legacy while making Anaconda their home. For decades, Donna and Gene ran Lutey's Furniture, rooting themselves deeply in the Anaconda community and forming lifelong connections with the people they served. They were blessed with early retirement, which led to traveling south for the winters where they made new friends and spent cherished time with family. Her joy in life was her family. Regardless of miles or weather, she aspired to attend the school and athletic events of her children, grandchildren, and most recently her great grandchildren. She could always be seen sitting on the sidelines or in the bleachers visiting with neighbors and friends about the latest happenings.

At home, she spent countless hours reading books, playing board games, and teaching nursery rhymes to all of those who lovingly knew her as GiGi and Nana. Her home was the place where on hot summer days you would find the neighborhood kids running through the hose and riding their bikes and during the winter, her front yard would be filled with snow tunnels and slides. We are blessed to have so many wonderful memories with her.

Donna's friendly and outgoing demeanor contributed to her life being filled with many lifelong friends, whom she cherished deeply. In later years, when friends typically move away and move on, Donna's friendships endured. Her daily routine included phone calls to catch up on the latest news with her friends, Iris, Betty, Margaret and Rose Marie, to name a few.

For the last year, she lived at New Horizons, where she made her new home, found new friends and deeply appreciated the wonderful care the staff provided her.

Donna had a remarkable gift for making everyone who entered her home feel welcome, cared for, and heard. Whether you stopped by for a cup of coffee and quick visit or a long conversation, she had a way of sending you back into the world feeling lighter than when you arrived. She lived with a quiet strength, a deep kindness, and a love that she gave freely and without condition.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gene Lutey; her parents, John and Helen Harrington; Brothers, Edward and John (Jack) Harrington; Sisters, JoAnn Vernos and Jean O'Brien.

She is survived by her three children, Herbert Lutey, Laura (Mark) Austin, and Dean (MaryEllen) Lutey; five grandchildren, Courtney (Mike) Green, Kelsey Austin, Jacob (Elly) Lutey, Hannah Lutey, and Alyssa Lutey; and five great-grandchildren, Lainey, Luna, and Livia Green, Lucy Lutey, and Walker Hughes; one step-daughter, Rhonda (Paul) Greenough and their two daughters, Stacey (Chris) McClincy, Nichole (Galen) Purfeerst, and their three grandchildren, Alyson and Mac McClincy and Anden Purfeerst. She is also survived by one sister, Judy (Carl) Popovich, and one sister-in-law, Helen Garwood. She also has many nieces, nephews, and other relatives too numerous to list.

Donna leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unshakable devotion to her family and friends. Her example of being steady, joyful, and full of faith will continue to guide us for the rest of our lives. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort knowing that she is reunited with Gene, the love of her life, and that her spirit will live on in every story shared, every family gathering, and every moment of kindness shown in her honor.

An announcement will be made in the near future of the funeral arrangements for Donna.

Rest in Peace, Mom. We love you.
