Jackie Corr died July 10, 2008, at St. James Healthcare after a short illness.
Jackie was once described by The Billings Gazette as a Butte historian, cab driver, and rabble-rouser. Whether you agreed with his politics or not, he was committed to his causes and sought out by many as a resource for Butte history. Jackie was passionate about stream access and was an organizer and participant in the July 2006 Ruby River float to support public rights-of-ways to access Montana water bodies. Jackie had a weekly column titled "Corr's Corner" in the Butte Weekly, and he also wrote for the RoundTown Review and several online publications including CounterPunch newsletter.
Jackie was born Nov. 6, 1941, to Jack and Vera Corr. He attended local schools and graduated from Boys' Central in 1959. He attended the University of Montana and San Jose State where he did graduate work in journalism.
After serving in the Navy, Jackie resided in San Jose, Calif. He returned to his much-loved Butte in the early 1980s where he resided until his death. He worked for Mining City Taxi for many years which allowed him to showcase Butte to visitors.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Danny; and nephew, Nick Merrick.
He is survived by Nancy and Greg Gerry, Bob Corr and Patricia Merrill, Linda Corr and Dale Mahugh and LeighBeth Merrick.
Jackie was especially grateful for the friendship and care of his special friends, John Cox, Harriet Gerry, and Fred and Darlene Booth.
A celebration of Jackie's life will be held at Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

The world has lost a great man. We will miss his humor, righteous attitude, unconventional widom and daily attacks of the Party. I can't imagine this election without his input and enthusiasm. His daily doses of wisdom grounded with his elegant sense of humor brightened our days. I will miss talking to this cousin who gave so much of himself. God bless you.

Bob, Nancy and Linda and Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy at the loss of Jackie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, during this time of grief and always. We will always remember our visit to Butte for Mom's 50th High School Reunion, and how Jackie took the time to show us the sights of Butte. Mom especially remembers his visit to her home after he returned from the service. We also respect the fact that Jackie was a true Patriot.
Love, Wayne, Leslie and Aunt Kathleen (Mom) Mansell

Jackie was bright, talented and dogged, blessed with a love justice and his favorite city. Just another of his electronic pen pals who greatly appreciated his grit and tenaciousness on behalf of issues that made a difference to all of us.

Jackie was a character and well liked by all who knew him here in Boulder. We met him when he ran the Windsor Bar going back almost twenty years. He had a twinkle in his eye and a story about old Butte that interested everyone.
He will be missed!!!!

Dearest Family and Friends of Jackie Corr,
Jackie had a serious impact on my life. I met him in 1973, during a California state senate campaign in San Jose, California. From the moment I met Jackie, until I read Bob's devestatingly sad email last week, Jackie was always a good and constant guide for good, critical thinking, and proper motivation for public officials. Every single day, I would look forward to coffee and emails from Jackie. Always a unique point of view, an unrelenting desire for the hard working folks to know and see what those with more money but, perhaps, less scrupples, were up to.
Jackie gave of himself in ways that are so important: intellectual honesty, personal integrity, and a love for thoughts and ideas over the value of things and stuff.
Love to those who knew him, love to the family, and love to those who value a keen mind.

Dear Linda & Bob & Family,
I'm so sorry to hear of the death of your brother. I was fortunate enough to know "Peanuts" & Danny when we were all much younger and it was certainly a pleasure. My love and prayers and best wishes are with you.

Jackie Corr,
You will be truly missed, you were an encyclopedia of information about Butte, with all your old photos of the Mining City from years gone by. I will treasure them always, and our long entertaining visits. Sympathy to the Corr Family. Sincerely,

Having grown up in Butte and moving away, I became aware of Jackie through his writings. Besides being a fellow alum of Boy's Central, I learned we shared a deep love for our Country and an appreciation of Butte's cultural heritage and unique history. I am sorry I wont get the chance to learn more from him.
Jackie was an inspiration to me, and the few emails we exchanged provided me needed information. In my book he was a hero, and always spoke truth to power.
A true American patriot has passed form the scene and we are further diminished
God Bless his Family and loved one's.

I was saddened by the news of his passing...I have so many memories of Jackie...and most of all the volumes of information he shared with me and so many others over the years. Jackie was an extraordinary intellect. I will miss his almost daily emails. Rest in peace, Jackie.

Bob Corr,
Sorry, about your loss, of your brother, Jackie.
I still remember, when we were going, to high school together, how you lost your brother Dan, too.
Years ago, whenever I visited Butte, my Dad, Rudy, and I always went to see your Dad at the old Racetrack. He always mentioned you to me.
Hope you are well, and I will offer a prayer for strength for all of your family at this time.
