John Mark Mondloch, 62
September 21, 1960 – November 03, 2022
John Mark Mondloch, 62, of Butte, Montana, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends, on November 3, 2022, ending his battle with ALS.
John was born on September 21, 1960 to Ed and Mary Mondloch. He was the fourth of seven siblings. John was raised on Howard Street where he met lifelong friends and mentors the Rashleigh, Carpino, and Erickson families. He attended Emerson Elementary, and East Junior High before graduating from Butte High School in 1979.
Following his high school graduation, John met the love of his life Laurie Hunt. The couple married on June 26, 1982. John and Laurie were blessed with two children; Nathan John and Amanda Marie.
John was a hard worker and took a lot of pride in his working life. At the age of 15 John got his first job at Carpino's Tire Mart in the re-tread department. Throughout his twenties John worked various construction jobs before landing a full time position at the Montana State Highway Department. Following his thirty-two year career, John retired in December 2021. He loved to wrench on cars and ran a mechanic business called J & N Repair out of his garage. John was also a lifelong volunteer fireman with the TerraVerde, Little Basin Creek and Racetrack Fire Departments.
John loved the outdoors and described them as a closeness to god. His summer months were spent on the lake boating with family and friends. He had several boats throughout his life, most recently a tritoon party barge called The Big Easy. The rest of the year he spent his time hunting, fishing, camping, and 4-wheeling in the mountains. He loved riding his 4-wheeler with a close group of friends.
John enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. They usually went to Hawaii but also traveled to Costa Rica, Belize, Florida Keys, St. Thomas, New Orleans, New York, Mexico, Washington DC, Nashville, Canada, the Oregon Coast, Seattle and most recently Alaska. In August 2022, John's dream came true. He and his son Nathan caught King Salmon together in Ketchikan, Alaska.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Mondloch; his father-in-law, Elroy Hunt; nephew, Joshua Mondloch, and great-nephew, Camden Brown. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie and his son, Nathan (Jessica) Mondloch and their son, Johnny Malcom, Amanda (Dan) Schlichenmayer and their three children: Carter, Asher, and Koah; sisters: Susie (Marty) Hanley, Sheila Mondloch, Diane (Rick) Schalk, Janel (Chet) Erwin, brothers: Dan Mondloch and Mike (Julie) Mondloch; mother-in-law, Dorothy Hunt; brothers-in-law: Jim (Gayle) Hunt, and the late Bob Hunt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. John will be forever remembered by his lifelong friends. John and family would like to give special thank you to Jim and Gina Konen, Ronnie and Pat Price, Susie, Marty and Jaci Hanley, Sheila Mondloch, Bonnie and Todd Hawke, Jeff Beckett, Angie Kambich and numerous others for their kind care during his difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at St. Ann's Parish on Wednesday, November 9, with visitation beginning at 10 AM followed by Mass at 11 AM.
