Robert Sheridan Obituary

Robert "Bob" George Sheridan

March 8, 1930 - July 24, 2025

Robert "Bob" George Sheridan, 95, passed away peacefully July 24, 2025, surrounded by love and memories of a full, well-lived life. Born March 8, 1930, in Butte, Montana, Bob was the first child of Hugh and Elizabeth Sheridan.

He was a proud graduate of Butte High (Class of 1948). As a young man, he delivered groceries for his parents' grocery store and ran a paper route.

While attending college, Bob worked as both a surveyor and a miner in the copper mines of Butte before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed stateside at Fort Lewis, WA and Camp San Luis Obispo, CA.

After his honorable discharge, Bob completed his degree in petroleum engineering at the Montana School of Mines (now Montana Tech) where he also met the love of his life, Margaret "Marge" Bennett. They were married in August 1955 and spent 62 wonderful years together filled with laughter, love and adventure.

Bob's professional journey brought him to Washington, D.C. where he served for nearly three decades as a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His dedication and intellect earned him the agency's prestigious Bronze Medal.

Bob and Marge lived in Arlington, Virginia and subsequently moved to Vienna, Virginia where they raised four children and lived for 55 years. In Vienna, they cultivated a warm welcoming household that became a neighborhood gathering place for friends of all ages. Family and connection were everything to Bob and frequent visits to his beloved hometown of Butte were treasured traditions.

In retirement, Bob and Marge became enthusiastic RV travelers, exploring the country together highlighted by an unforgettable journey to Alaska. He found joy in the open road, and the freedom of adventure.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marge, his infant sister, Betty Louise, his parents, Hugh and Elizabeth, and his sister Rosalie Erickson.

His legacy lives on in his children, Diane Sheridan, Linda Sheridan, (husband Charles Miller, Jr), Michael Sheridan (wife Trina), and Robert B. Sheridan (and wife Stephanie). Additionally, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Daniel Miller, Hugh Miller (and his wife Pamela Renninger), Kate Sheridan, Evan Sheridan, Austin Sheridan, and Julia Sheridan.

Bob lived with humor, humility, and heart. His stories, wisdom and love will remain with all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Robert Sheridan to The Dementia Network, The Parkinsons Foundation, The Amyloidosis Foundation or a charity of choice.
