Russell Arthur Larson, 63
January 19, 1960 – January 29, 2023
BUTTE - Russ was born in Rantoul, Illinois on Jan. 19, 1960, and lived throughout the world because of his father's military career. If you asked him about the places he lived, he'd fondly and characteristically remember custard-filled cakes made by hand at his elementary school in England. His family eventually settled in the Black Hills of South Dakota where he grew up riding horses, driving winding country roads, and wreaking havoc with his siblings. He really never stopped visiting home to do the latter.
After moving to Butte in the late 80's, he met his life partner and raised two children. He shared his passion for music with them, and everyone around him by constantly whistling melodies that bopped around in his head. He taught himself how to play drums masterfully and performed in numerous bands. Thanks to his mom, his appreciation for music ran deep. He never ruled any genre out, and enjoyed everything from Chick Corea to Kendrick Lamar. When he welcomed anyone into his space, they got to experience his beautiful and well-thought-out yard & garden, music around a fire or a space heater in his garage and reminisce about his favorite meals.
Despite being out of the real estate game for years, he found peace in driving around with a coffee and enjoying architecture, or sometimes just a scenic route.
He passed away on Jan. 29, 2023, with his wife of thirty years by his side. Anybody who knew him felt grateful to meet someone with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Elly Reys; son, Earl Russell Sholey Larson; and father-in-law, Earl Sholey.
He is survived by his father, Gerald (Swede) Larson; his sweet wife, Tammy; his daughter, Cassandra D. Sholey Larson; his son-in-law, Michael Sowell; his brother, Robert Larson; his siblings and best friends, Lesley Rutter and Quinten Larson; his grand dog, Trixie; mother-in-law, Diane Sholey; brothers and sisters in-law, Earl Sholey, John (Lori) Sholey, Frank (Charlene) Sholey, Sherri (Brian) Dankers, and Dee Shell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 4th at Front Street Station, 800 E Front Street in Butte. In lieu of flowers memorials in honor of Russ are suggested to Make-a-Wish or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

So sad, Russ had a lot of life left to live. Condolences to Tammy and Cassie. Russ was one of a kind. He had a big heart, heck of a musician, big baseball fan, kept an immaculate yard and so many great barbeques. He will be sorely missed.
