ROBERT ERNST MEYER
Robert Ernst Meyer, age 92, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover. He was born May 3, 1932, in Hermann, Missouri, a son of the late Oswald Fritz and Florence W. (Volleresen) Meyer.
On June 9, 1956, in Owensville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Irene Piezuch, who preceded him in death on May 19, 2022.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict.
He started working for the Highway Patrol as a State Trooper on July 12, 1959, and was promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 1974. He retired on July 1, 1987, after twenty-eight years of service.
He was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, and the Versailles American Legion Post 104, and was an active member of the Versailles Optimist Club during its tenure.
Robert was an avid sports fan, coached baseball, and founded the 3M Baseball League. He stayed active as a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed fishing for catfish, and especially loved building birdhouses for the Purple Martin birds he cared for in his yard.
He is survived by his sons, Dale Meyer and wife Teri of Marshfield, Missouri and Ronald Meyer and wife Rebecca, David Meyer and wife Melody and Marvin Meyer and wife Kathy all of Versailles, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; his brother, Randy Meyer and wife Dorothy of Wellsville, Missouri and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Oscar Meyer, and a sister, Gladys Finley.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, January 16th, at the Versailles United Methodist Church. Graveside services and interment followed in the Versailles Cemetery with the Missouri State Highway Patrol escort and full military honors. The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Thursday, at the church, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Honor Guard providing honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church.
