Ann Marie Langmann Obituary

Ann Marie Langmann

September 14, 1930-December 27, 2020

Ann Marie Corlane Harestad Langmann passed away peacefully from heart failure at Halycon House in Washington, Iowa on December 27, 2020. A private family service will be held on December 31st. Interment will be at the Durant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Durant American Legion, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Washington County Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com

Ann Marie, daughter of Alfred and Cora Harestad, was born September 14, 1930 in Huxley, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Fjelberg Lutheran Church, Huxley, Iowa. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant.

Ann Marie graduated from Huxley High School and Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. She worked as a 3rd grade Teacher in Hubbard, Iowa, and Substitute Teacher in Durant. She was a valuable employee for many Iowa businesses: Woolworths (Ames), The Variety Store (Radcliffe), Larsen's Grocery Store (Radcliffe), private secretary for USF&G Insurance and State Auto Insurance (Des Moines), private secretary for Dr. Tanner, Waldorf College (Forest City).

On August 21, 1954, she married Dale Langmann, teacher and coach in Hubbard, Iowa. In 1955, the young couple moved to Sheffield, Iowa. While living there, Ann Marie was an active member of school groups, church groups, and women's club.

In 1960, they moved to Durant, where Dale worked as a teacher and coach, eventually becoming a Rural Mail Carrier. Ann Marie was a devoted leader in her community. She served as President of Lutheran Women, Legion Auxiliary Member, an Officer and President of County, District, & State Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She was also a leader for Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, and Webelos for many years, as well as a PTO Officer, and a Women's Club Officer. In 1972, she was honored as one of the top 100 Women in Iowa at a luncheon in Des Moines, Iowa. Ann Marie and Dale raised three children of their own, Cindy, Kim, and Alan. In 1982, after the unexpected deaths of Ann Marie's brother and his wife, they welcomed their nieces, Carla and Jill, into their family.

Ann Marie and Dale enjoyed attending Rural Carrier Conventions; they traveled throughout the state of Iowa and visited almost every state in the USA. They also traveled to Guam and several European countries to visit their family. Ann Marie especially enjoyed a trip to Sweden to see Berit Palmgren, her Swedish daughter-in-heart, and a trip to Norway to meet many cousins and see the ancestral home.

Ann Marie gave much of herself during her lifetime, serving those around her in any way she could. She enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, writing letters and creating crafts for her loved ones, and volunteering her time to connect with and uplift her community. She was always patient, gracious, and kind to those who she met on her journey through life. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Ann Marie is lovingly remembered by her children, Cindy (Jim) Ayres of Washington, Iowa, Kim (Brian) Davis of Muscatine, Alan (Lynnae) Langmann of Colgate, Wisconsin, and Carla (Brian) Kieffer of Menomonie, Wisconisn; Grandchildren: Jennifer Palmer, Benjamin (Jeandette) Ayres, Angela (Drew) Ayrit, Allison (Noah) Eichelberger, Dr. Michael (Tegan) Davis, Sydney (Chase) Rea, Chandler Langmann, Megan Kieffer, Meredith Kieffer, Matthew Kieffer; Great Grandchildren: Peter Palmer, Wyatt Palmer, Rowan Ayrit, Leilani Ayres, Luna Ayres, and Lily Jean Ayres.

Kim and all the families and friends of Ann Marie, I am sorry to read about Ann Marie's passing. In the past 5 years that I worked in the post office, there was rarely a day I was working, that Ann Marie didn't come in to mail her letters and cards. And she always made sure she had enough postage ! It was a joy to know her, and her video was a tribute to her wonderful life and family.

Ann Marie was such a lovely, caring and compassionate person. From the time I first met her shortly after my brother became engaged to her daughter Kim, she welcomed me into the Langmann clan. It was a privilege to know Ann Marie and be a even a small part of this amazing family that she and Dale created.
Kim, Cindy, Al and Carla - I'm so very sorry for your loss. Continue to share the memories and she will live on in your hearts as well as you're children and grandchildren.
Jen, Ben, Angel, Allie, Michael, Sydney, Chandler, Megan, Meredith and Matthew -- you were blessed with such an awesome Grandmother. Carry her memory in your hearts and always share "grandma memories"!
The video tribute was so wonderful :) Playing dominoes will always remind me of Ann Marie.

I have so many good memories of Ann Marie I will always remember. Always smiling as I delivered her meals on wheels or saw her at the post office. I did her hair for quite a few years and heard all about her wonderful family. She would make cookies so the grand children could decorate them.
I still have some of the crafts she made me for holidays. What a great woman she was and quite proud of her family.

Kim , we send our deepest sympathy to you and your family on the passing of your Mother. She certainly was a woman we should all aspire to be like. Giving so much much of herself to others, her Community, Church, and various other organizations all the while raising a wonderful family and devoted wife. I am sure she most certainly had to have left memory’s with everyone she came in contact with and through her travels.
As she was a Christian woman, I hope you find consultation knowing she is at Home with our Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband.
Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers we extend to you and your family.
Sincerely, Jack (Toby) and Bonnie Skaggs

I have never forgotten how gracious and kind she was when I came to visit - including me on family trips and enjoying her fabulous oreo ice cream dessert!
