Barbara M. Bublitz
July 10, 1927-October 8, 2020
Barbara Bublitz, of West Des Moines, IA, formerly of Muscatine, passed away peacefully after a short illness on October 8, 2020. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, she grew up in Galesville, Wisconsin. Barbara moved to Muscatine with her young family in 1962 and eventually began a long career as a reference librarian at the Musser Public Library where she was actively involved in recording the history of Muscatine. When one of her children once declared he "was bored" she promptly replied "read a book!" Barbara was curious about the world and had a subtle sense of humor.
No services are planned.

Barbara gave me my love for Muscatine history. She was not only a coworker but my friend. She's the one who talked me into applying for the assistant library director position. It wasn't a job I wanted, but she said I'd be good and I knew she would have my back. Rest In Peace dear friend.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked in cardiac rehab in Muscatine for many years & thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Barbara. We played her favorite classical music when she came to exercise. What a delightful lady with a wry sense of humor

I worked with Barb at the public library for many years. She was the Reference/Local History Librarian when I started. Barb was so smart, so professional and a lot of fun. She usually won the staff contests for the most books read. Barb worked to record and save Muscatine history through audio interviews, saving the Grossheim glass plate negatives, and collecting local information and genealogical materials.
