John Russell Bublitz Sr., age 70, or Winona, MN, passed away on January 6, 2026, at his home.
John was born to Russell and Florence (Steinfeldt) Bublitz on April 5, 1955. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran church in Pickwick, MN, providing a strong and unwavering faith in our Lord to his last day.
Growing up on the family farm at the top of Cedar Valley Hill shaped his life and those of his children. John grew to love the sunset across Homer Ridge, but his heart was in the Pickwick Valley as he married Cindi Harvey from Pickwick and they had 3 children Johnnie, Liza, and Lindzey.
He and his father built his home on the family farm with the most beautiful spot looking across the ridge. He was a farmer, a welder, a carpenter, a butcher, and a logger. He put a sawmill together and we call became master pallet builders. He played a mean game of pool and loved great music. He was short on words but had loud facial expressions telling you all you needed to know!
“Grandpa” was his best and most beloved title. May you be eating grandma’s pumpkin pie with the Angels!
John is survived by his loving children, John (Carly) Bublitz, Liza (Brad) Haagenson and Lindzey Jo, grandchildren, James, Lillian, and Juliet; and sisters, Joan (Jerrold) Zenke and Darleen (Frank) Brand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Florence; and sisters, Dianne (Ole) and June (Jo).
Please join up to celebrate John’s life with his family and friends at St. John’s Lutheran Church (180 Williams St. Lewiston, MN) on January 10, 2026, with visitation at 12pm and service beginning at 1pm. A light lunch will be served following the ceremony. Burial will be at a later date.
Hoff Celebration of Life Center is assisting the family.
