Gloria L. Burns, age 90 of Rochester, formerly of Winona passed away at Mayo Clinic-Rochester Methodist Campus on Friday, February 13, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Gloria Lorraine was born on July 20, 1935, in Phillips, WI to Edwin and Rosella Oberg. She attended Phillips, WI schools and graduated in 1953. She attended Winona State for two years following high school. She married Anthony George Burns on July 23, 1955, in Lewiston. The couple made a home and raised their children in Winona. Upon retirement, they moved to Rochester. Gloria was a homemaker and also worked for the Winona School District (Madison School) in the kitchen. She was the best cook and baker, talented seamstress, spent many hours quilting with the ladies at church, enjoyed gardening and canning her garden produce for those she loved. She enjoyed a day of shopping with her daughter and attended many sporting events for her grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed her activities, friends and community at The Waters on Mayowood.
Gloria will be missed by her children Gregory Burns of Minnetrista and LuAnne (David) Donahue of Rochester; three grandchildren, Anthony (Anne) Donahue of Rochester, Dustin (Kristina) Donahue of Dexter, Sam Burns of Minnetrista; great-grandchildren Audrey, Easton and Orly; sister Evelyn Olson of Phillips, WI and Sam's mother, Debbie Shaffer of Minnetrista.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, sisters Virginia Smetak and Joy Ann Jacobson and brothers Robert, Edwin Jr., and Harold Oberg.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Chinnappa Pothireddy officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Donahue, Dustin Donahue, Sam Burns, Audrey Donahue, Easton Donahue, Orly Donahue, Anne Donahue and Kristina Donahue.
