Richard (Buck, Dick) Lyndon Lord

Richard (Buck, Dick) Lyndon Lord died peacefully at home on December 30, 2020 at the age of 84.

He was the loving father of Dr. Richard Lord PhD (and his wife Yoshie), David Lord and Sarah Beall (and her husband Morgan), proud grandfather of Andrew and Rebecca Beall, and great-grandfather of Sophia Beall.

Dick was born in Muscatine on September 29, 1936; the only child of Andrew and Etta (Winsell) Lord. He served as a page-boy at the Iowa State Capitol, where his uncle, Herman Lord, was a Senator. While a teenager, Max Stanley was his scoutmaster, and later Stan Howe was his explorer leader. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1954, and at the age of 17, he started working for Stanley Consultants. Then attended Muscatine Community College for two years. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1958, with a degree in civil engineering. In 1969 he received a master's degree in environmental engineering. He married Sarah Childs on June 15th, 1958, and they have had a long and loving marriage of 62 years. Dick worked at Stanley's for 30 years, and then transferred to Atlanta in 1974 as the head of the operations group for the new office. Subsequently, Dick and Sally returned to Muscatine for five years, and Dick served as Vice President of the International group at Stanley's, where he made 26 business trips to the country of Yemen. Later, he left Stanley's to work for Engineering Science based out of Atlanta for over twenty years. In his career, he conducted engineering projects throughout the world, from West Africa, to the Middle East, to Southeast Asia. Dick had an insatiable appetite for travel, and spent most of his vacations touring the globe with his wife and family. He took his grandchildren to the Galapagos Islands, hiked Machu Pichu, tracked through the Amazon, and had two snow mobile adventures in Yellowstone. He and Sally made two trips around the world on TWA. He introduced his children and grandchildren to most of the National Parks in the United States, and many in other countries.

Dick always said, "The world is like a book. If you stay home you've only read the first page." He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts and with numerous voluntary church organizations. He was a member of the Buford First United Methodist Church.
