Robert Rogers Obituary

Robert J. Rogers

September 28, 1961-December 24, 2022

Resident of Wichita, KS, formerly of Muscatine, IA, died suddenly on Saturday, 24 December 2022, at the age of 61, in a motor vehicle accident in Ottawa, KS. Unlike his parental lectures and struggles with in-app pizza ordering, we believe it was quick and painless.

He was a conservative man in most regards, sans his persistent overuse of table salt and his love affair with popcorn and stick butter. So, though his passing was sudden anx unexpected; God likely spared him a future of heart disease and subsequent self-induced starvation from a prescribed 'bland' diet.

Along with his subtle ability to speak his mind and tell it like it was, Bob was a great conversationalist and an easy talk, with a compassionate heart, and an adept sense of humor. Fluent in sarcasm, he loved to banter, especially over a cold beer. Undoubtedly there are some bar tops surrounded by friendly faces and heavy hearts that stand a little stifled in his absence.

While Bob was convinced this world was headed for somewhere in a hand basket; and he once was quoted, "I don't understand this generation-washing out trash" -in reference to recycling; Bob did his part with decades worth of washing his ziplock bags for reuse. A passion he passed onto his middle child-whom he has also willed his used ziplock bag collection.

Though gentle and modest in many aspects, you might not have believed it if you bore witnessed to his self-proclaimed amazing karaoke and dancing abilities. Indeed the stage and dance floor will be a little less spirited in their vacuity.

In his youth, Bob was gifted both athletically and academically, while also serving as class president. Bob graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and later received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from University of Iowa. An accomplished engineer with numerous academic and professional accolades, Bob was respected for his contributions to the field and held his work in high personal regard. Though gifted mathematically, he had an exuberant amount of calculators and scales. Like an Easter egg hunt, his kids continue to find them arbitrarily in his belongings, along with random toothpicks.

Intelligent, knowledgeable, passionate, and a real stubborn pain in the @ss; he was equally loving, genuine, generous, and just.

Donating to charity and volunteering his time with Meals on Wheels were important to Bob and an inherent part of his character.

Among others, he favored: St Jude, Shriners, Wounded Warrior Project, America's Vet Dogs, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

There are few things Bob loved more in life than chocolate chip cookies and pecan pie, standup comedy, or the Iowa Hawkeyes-except for maybe the open road and wind in his hair, while riding his Harley, American Cheese Singles, and of course, his kids.

Bob is survived by his three beloved children: his daughter Amy Rogers, his daughter Kelly LaPlant, and his son Bobby Rogers. The void his passing leaves in their hearts is both substantial and infinite.

While Bob left us far too soon, the impact he had on his community, friends, and family will be felt for years to come. Though, if you asked him, he would tell you his greatest accomplishment aside from being "Devilishly handsome with impeccable good looks," was "Raising three smart, beautiful, compassionate, loving kids." And because we know you "Never get tired of hearing it;" Dad…YOU WERE RIGHT.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in his honor on Saturday, 7 January 2023 at the American Legion Post 27, 110 S Houser St, Muscatine, IA 52761 from 2:00-7:00pm.

Bob & I met on Match.com and had a few dates, lots of texts, and talks on the phone. We didn´t make a love connection but when my partner passed away in 2021, Bob was there for me. We were always friends and he wrote me a long message, seeking advice but I guess I waited too long to respond. I had recently been trying to reach out to my friend but no response. Don´t know why I looked you up this way but I am truly sadden that I never got my motorcycle ride in Illinois. Sad that my best friend is gone. I will always remember you by green & Bad Company music

Bobby, we met in junior high many years ago competing in sports. We had mutual friends in Donny and Todd. We parted ways after high school and eventually found each other in of all places Facebook!
We chatted there on many things, current events and reminiscing about the "good ole days".
God gave you a second chance and you live life to its fullest! You maybe gone from this world but your memories will live on in the hearts of many.
Rest in peace my friend until we meet again!

I didn´t know him. I read the obituary and now I feel like I´ve known him forever. Sorry for your loss. I have a feeling his kids will keep his spirit alive through stories, old inside jokes and the right amount of sarcasm! Well done
