William Steenhagen Obituary

STEENHAGEN, MR. WILLIAM ALLEN Holton, MI (Formerly of Fruitport) Mr. William Steenhagen, age 76, passed away at home, Saturday morning, January 22, 2005, following a long illness. Mr. Steenhagen was born on October 27, 1928 in Grand Rapids to Henry and Minnie (Cincush) Steenhagen and settled in Muskegon Hts. as a child. He married Jennie C. Schaner in Muskegon on October 10, 1949 and in 1957 settled in Fruitport. Bill was a Captain on the Fruitport Township Volunteer Fire Department, a past member of the Muskegon Moose Lodge and a Boy Scout leader. He was employed at Bennett Pump for 18 years and was a member of U.A.W. Local 814. In 1973 Bill and Jennie moved to Stoney Lake and purchased the Stoney Haven Campground. In 1995 he retired and moved to Holton and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brunswick, MI. SURVIVORS: wife, Jennie C. of Holton; 6 sons, David (Sue) of Kent City, Robert (Peggy) of Manton, Thomas (Janeen) of St. Joseph, MI, James (Jackie) of Fruitport, Danial (Diane) of Cadillac, MI and Frank (Laura) of Muskegon; 4 daughters, Catherine Beeler of West Olive, Connie (Jeff) McCoy of Muskegon, Nancy (Robert) McLouth of Manton and Christine (Bruce) Norkoli of Cadillac, MI; 3 brothers, Donald (Shirley) Steenhagen, Kenneth (Lynn) Steenhagen and Robert (Margaret) Mowers; 3 sisters, Alice (Joe) Lakatos, Barbara (Frank) Smith and Pat (Fred) Powlenko; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 6 foster children. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phillis Louise in 1963 and a brother-in-law, Daniel Beeler. SERVICES: Wednesday, 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brunswick, Fr. Michael Alber presiding. VISITATION: Today, 6-8 P.M. and Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Lee Funeral Home. PRAYER VIGIL SERVICE: Tuesday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
