John Sobjack Obituary

John Edward Sobjack, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. He was born on February 17, 1936, in Bellingham, Washington, where he lived for most of his life. John attended Bellingham High School, where he played football and met the love of his life, Leah, his future wife. After graduating, he enlisted in the Marines and served for four years. While stationed in Hawaii, he worked as a barber on the base and was joined by Leah, who was expecting their first child. After his military service, John returned to Bellingham and began working at Georgia Pacific with the help of his father, Joseph. He worked as a machine tender for many years before retiring. John and Leah were blessed with two sons, Steve and Scott, both of whom have passed away. He is survived by his grandsons Corey and Brandon, his sister Mary Jean, and brother Dick, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Leah, in 2023; his two sons, Steve and Scott; his brother, Don; and his grandson, Zane. A man of many talents, John was a skilled craftsman who loved working with his hands. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a proud gun collector. He spent many happy hours hunting with his brother, nephews, and friends, and his garage was a testament to his passion, filled with his mounted hunting trophies. He also built and repaired boats, and he loved to take his fishing boat, the Night Tripper, out on the water. John's love for his family was his greatest legacy. He was devoted to his wife, Leah, and his children. His dedication to Leah was especially evident when he made her dream a reality by building her a beautiful log cabin in Deming, where they spent their final years together in peace and comfort. John will be remembered for his kindness, his craftsmanship, and his deep love for his family. Services for John will be held at Moles Farewell Tributes – Bayview Chapel located at 2465 Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 11:30 AM.
