Lillian Ramsey Obituary

Lillian Coggins Ramsey, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 78, in Bellingham, WA. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on January 9, 1947, in Sedro-Woolley, WA, Lillian grew up in a family that had relocated from Tennessee, a heritage that shaped her warm Southern hospitality, distinct accent, and unwavering generosity. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1965, and soon after, married the love of her life, Sonny Ramsey. Together, they built a family, raising four daughters with love, acceptance, and an open heart. Lillian dedicated herself to caring for others, both in her home and beyond. Her warmth and compassion touched the lives of many, and her home was always a place of comfort and joy. In her early years, Lillian was a stay-at-home mother to her four daughters. Later, she found deep fulfillment as a Visiting Nurse home health care aid, bringing comfort and companionship to her clients, many of whom became close friends. When there was a need, Lillian and Sonny became foster parents for five special children, and many more in the years that followed. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was the heart of her world, and she made sure every child in her life felt safe, loved, and treasured. At age 70, after the passing of Sonny, Lillian embarked on a new chapter, moving to Eleanor Apartments. There, she experienced living on her own for the first time and formed deep and meaningful friendships that enriched her later years. Lillian is survived by her daughters Karla Ramsey (Skip Hamilton) and Chris Sullivan (Joe); her cherished grandchildren Tempest Wilson (Dakota); Teeaira Griffin (Tyler) and Taylee King (Josh); Alex Treptow (Jazz); Dayne Sullivan, Caitlyn Sullivan and Darsi Sullivan; her beloved great-grandchildren Tukker, Aubrey, Braelyn, Jameson, Iris, Declan and Ellie-Lou. She also leaves behind her foster children Dawna Nieders, Amanda McCormick (Jason) and Steven Dewey (Tasha), as well as her foster grandchildren Tyler, Austin, Jordan, Londa and Raiven. She is survived by her brother Donny Coggins, along with many more foster children and close friends and extended family. Lillian was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Cecil (Sonny) Ramsey Jr.; her precious daughters Sonja Griffin and Lynn Hadeen; her parents, Reece and Bernice Coggins; her dear foster daughter Sonja Olsen; and her brothers Calvin and Terry Coggins. Lillian's home was more than just a house – it was a haven. Her door was always open, welcoming family, friends, and even strangers with warmth and hospitality. She had a deep passion for cooking and found joy in feeding others, ensuring that no one ever left empty-handed – whether with a warm meal, a thoughtful gift, or the comfort of her unwavering support. She loved family gatherings and celebrations, road trips, and days spent at the beach or at a picnic. No matter where she went, children were always by her side. Even when walking was difficult, she insisted on taking a group of kids to the fair every year until it was no longer possible. To many, Lillian was a rock-a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. She touched countless lives with her kindness, selflessness, and steadfast devotion to family and friends. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Lillian's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, 1:00 pm, at the Birch Bay Bible Community Church. In honor of Lillian's generous spirit, donations may be made to St. Jude's or charity of your choice. Her family finds comfort in knowing that her love and lessons will continue to guide them, just as she always did in life.
