Albert "Al" J. Leschinski

AGE: 85 Old Bridge

Albert "Al" J. Leschinski, 85, of Old Bridge, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011, at home. He was born in Simpson, Pennsylvania on November 6, 1925. He graduated from the Fell Township High School. He attended Biarritz American University and Rutgers University. Al worked for 43 years for the Western Electric Company, Kearny, in the wood shop, iron shop and later in the billing and accounting department as an Accounting Specialist. Also, for 42 years, he has been an AT&T Pioneer. Al married his beloved wife, Sylvia of Newark in 1948, and was married for 48 years when she joined our Lord. Surviving are his six loving children, A. Carolyn Taylor, Audrey Leschinski, Karen Wyckoff, Kathy Leschinski, Mark Leschinski and John Leschinski and five cherished grandchildren, Kristina, Marc, Colleen, Brianna and Bradford. Al and his family moved to the Cheesequake section of Old Bridge in 1955. Al was a combat infantryman in the 69th Infantry Division in World War II. He fought within the 69th Infantry from the Battle of the Bulge, across Germany to the Elbe River, where they were the first American Division to meet the Russian Army. During his Army enlistment, he earned, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the Central Europe & Rhineland Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. Al was chosen as the Grand Marshall of the Old Bridge 2005 Memorial Day Parade. He was a Communicant of the St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor, where he served as a church usher for many years, and a member of the Rosary Society. He was Grand Knight in the St. Lawrence Knights of Columbus, a Past Grand Knight, and the Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Monsignor Brady Assembly. Al was a Life Member of the Cheesequake Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 6761 and a Member of the Cheesequake Seniors Club.

Family and friends are invited Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Thursday, 8AM at the funeral home, with a 9AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor. Entombment to follow at Holmdel Mausoleum, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Al's name to The Knights of Columbus Council 10281, 109 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, NJ 08879.
