Angelo A. Orlando Jr.

AGE: 83 • Edison

Angelo A. Orlando, Jr., 83, of Edison died on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at home.

Born in Newark, he has lived in Edison 55 years.

He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 43rd MASH Hospital on the 38th parallel, as a scrub nurse. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 3117.

Angelo was General Manager of Dayton Ford from 1976 until 1994; from 1994 until 1997 he served as Director of Recreation and Parks for Edison Township. He was a Consultant with Federal Business Centers in Edison from 1998 until his retirement in 2008.

Angelo was a member of the Edison Township Council from 1978-1989, serving as President from 1980-1981. He has been a member of Edison Arts Society since 1998 and had served as President from 2000-2013. In 2000, Angelo founded the Edison Symphony Orchestra and has been President since it was founded. He was a Trustee of St. Peter's University Hospital and a Foundation member from 1985-1993. He was a member of the American Cancer Society Board/Middlesex County. He was a Silver Life Member of the Edison Police Department. He was the recipient of the Edison Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award and was named the Edison Elks Citizen of the Year in 2014.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (nee Mackie), who died in 2009.

He is survived by two brothers John Orlando and his wife Nancy of Leesburg, FL and Michael Orlando and his wife Jo Anne of Metuchen. He is also survived by four nephews Anthony Orlando, Joseph Orlando, Norman Stickel and Timothy Stickel; two nieces Tina Mc Keon and Carol Hartman.

Services will take place on Friday June 5, 2015 at 9:45 AM from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen; followed by a 10:15 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen, interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
