Captain Joseph P. Uhrig

AGE: 85 • Bradenton, FL

Joseph P. Uhrig, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at his home in Bradenton, FL. He was born on Nov. 10, 1929 in Staten Island, NY. He was a longtime resident of Holmdel, NJ and Bradenton, FL. Joe was a Sandy Hook Ship Pilot for 40 years. He was proud of his career and loved being at sea. Joe retired in 1990 and soon after moved to Bradenton where he enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and long walks on the beach. He also loved family vacations on cruise ships.

Joe was a devoted father and grandfather. His first wife, Lois A. Uhrig, died in 1980 after 29 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Joe is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Karl and wife Donna Uhrig, Lincroft, NJ; daughter, Donna and husband Rick Wantz, Chatham, NJ; three stepsons, Scott and wife Lynn Baker, Glenn and wife Kari Baker, and Dean and wife Carla Baker; and six grandchildren, Dana and Jeffrey Uhrig, Kimberly and Andrew Wantz, Sarah and Colin Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2000 Florence Ave., Hazlet, NJ.
