Colin Costello Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

COLIN JOHN COSTELLO
AGE: 65 MIDDLETOWN
Colin John Costello, 65, of Middletown, died peacefully on December 10, 2010, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Born in Hempstead, NY, Colin graduated from St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, NY and Providence College in Rhode Island. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, where he met his loving wife of 39 years, Christa. They returned to the U.S. and settled in New York City before moving to Middletown in 1977, where they have been residents ever since. Colin worked on Wall Street for many years and then for the New York State Banking Department until his retirement.
Colin was predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Nora Costello, of Great Neck, NY; his parents-in-law, Reinhold and Susie Weidele of St. Ilgen, Germany; his sister-in-law, Heiderose Sponsel, of St. Ilgen, Germany; and his brother-in-law, Werner Breiter of Sandhausen, Germany. He is survived by his wife, Christa of Middletown; his son, Patrick of Naples, FL; his son, Andrew of New York, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Barbara Costello of Southampton, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Owen and Nancy Costello of Port Washington, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Arnold Pepe, of Freehold, NJ; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gert and Gabrielle Lindenau, of Alsenborn, Germany; a sister-in-law, MarieLuise Breiter, of Sandhausen, Germany; and five nephews.
A devoted husband and father, Colin loved his family tirelessly and inspired his two sons to be successful, both professionally and personally. He was an avid reader, golfer and loyal fan of the New York Times Saturday and Sunday Crossword Puzzles, which he fully completed (in ink!) each and every week without fail. Colin's witty sense of humor and love of a good joke will always be remembered. A fighter to the very end, he battled his illness with dignity and bravery up until the day the Good Lord called him home.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Saint James Church, 94 Broad Street, Red Bank. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Colin's memory to Meridian At Home Hospice, Neptune, NJ. For more information or to send condolences, please visit www.pflegerfh.com.
