Dennis M. Cronin

AGE: 83 • North Brunswick

Dennis Michael Cronin, 83, of North Brunswick, passed on St. Patrick's Day at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Son of Michael and Anne Cronin, he was a graduate of St. Peter's High School Class of 1946. Dennis was born in Staten Island and raised in New Brunswick. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by IBEW #456- North Brunswick for many years. He served as President of the local and was a member of the Executive Board. He most loved teaching electrical apprentices, which he did for many years. One of his other passions was boxing. He was a Golden Glove & AAU Champion. He profoundly influenced many young men by teaching them the sweet science of boxing. He ran many boxing gyms throughout the State of NJ- the last being the Knights of Columbus Boxing Club in South River. He was a tireless fundraiser for the American Cancer Society & received the Shining Star Award in 2006. Of all of his accomplishments Dennis was most proud of his family.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice; four daughters, Linda & Wayne Kassotis of Fitzwilliam, NH, Kathleen & Thomas Mauriello of Griggstown, Patrice Cronin of Hamilton, Denise & Paul O'Brien of Plainsboro; one son, Michael & Jennifer Cronin of Normandy Beach. Dennis is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Tedesco, and survived by his brother, Francis & Marilyn Cronin of North Brunswick, Adored Uncle of many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Brian, Sean, Colin, Jack, Caleb, Josh, Nicholas, Christopher, Joseph, Michael and Bridget.

Funeral Services will be Friday, March 22nd, 9:15 am at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue, New Brunswick; followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Peter the Apostle RC Church in New Brunswick; entombment will be at St Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society - 2600 US HWY #1 North Brunswick NJ 08902, or, The Challah Fund, C/O M Nissenblath-205 Easton Ave, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alice and the entire Cronin Family. Thank You for sharing Dennis and his time with the rest of us
Dennis was a person who was more give than take. He and Tony Gabriel were two Local 456 electrician brothers who ran the Knights of Columbus Boxing gym to help as many kids as they could reach. This was a man who helped so many of us learn not only how to fight in the ring but fight for the principles we believe in. Dennis was not only a tough fighter he was intelligent, there was a lesson to be learned from almost everything he said. This guy was a class act and we were all the better for having him in our lives. Thanks Dennis for all the things you gave to us.

I remember Dennis fondly from his days as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. He was a dedicated volunteer and an all around good guy. Impossible not to like him. May he rest in peace.

To the Cronin family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Dennis' passing. It was both an honor and a privilage to have known Dennis. He taught so many of us how to be a good person and a good union member and to give back to your community. His work ethic and sharing of his knowledge has benefitted so many people both inside and outside the local. His dedication provided opportunities to so many. It's hard to capture the worth of a good and noble man in a few lines scribbled in a guest book; words seem inadequate to convey the greatness of this one man's life. My Uncle Den embodied the humility, generosity and compassion exactly as his father modeled before him. Their legacy continues in the lives of those whom Dennis loved and served and mentored. In a world of followers, this man lived as a servant-leader and I am the better for it. Thank you, from a loving nephew.
