Edward J. Cahill

AGE: 85 • South Amboy

Edward J. Cahill, 85, of South Amboy, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at The Willows, Holmdel. Born in Staten Island, Mr. Cahill was a longtime resident of South Amboy. He lived in Miami Beach, Fla. for many years before returning to South Amboy. Prior to his retirement in 1977, he was an Administrator at Cornell University Medical School, New York City, N.Y. for over 20 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Cahill received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He served in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel; and his son, Glenn. Surviving are his daughters, Colleen Thomson of Greer, S.C., and Deborah Murawski of South Amboy; four grandchildren, William Natusch and his wife Lorrin, Colleen Moskal and her husband Tim, Michael Natusch and his wife Bridget, and Jamie Murawski; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Timothy Moskal Jr.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Whiteley Funeral Home, 241 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy. Funeral Monday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary R.C. Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) would be appreciated.

Thank you all for your lovely thoughts. My father was surrounded by wonderful people at the Willows...he was cared for and loved greatly. He had many friends there....and I will always take great comfort in that.
