Elizabeth Ann (McMullen) Erm, 74 years old, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was born May 27, 1939 in Elizabeth to Albert and Lucille McMullen, the youngest of eleven children. Known to all who loved her as Betty, she spent her childhood years in Linden, where she met her husband, Ed.

Shortly after the birth of their first child, Janet, Ed and Betty followed an opportunity that relocated them to the shore area. Here Betty raised her three children, and created a home. She waitressed and tended bar at the Bay Head Yacht Club with her husband for many years. She was instantly recognizable to many members of the community as a friendly but no-nonsense crossing guard for the Point Pleasant Boro Police Department for 23 years. She retired in 2001.

She will always be remembered like a second mother to her nieces and nephews, as well as many of the neighborhood children.

She has been an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bay Head, attending daily and assisting with many church activities. She was an avid camper, first with her children then later her grandchildren. She also enjoyed swimming and wintering in Florida.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Ed; her parents, Albert and Lucille; her grandson, William and several siblings. She is survived by daughter, Janet Taylor and her husband Tom; her son, Edward and his wife Mary; and her son, Chris and his wife Lisa. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Frank and his wife Gail; her pride and joys, her grandchildren, Shawn Erm and Christine and her husband John Goida and great-granddaughter, Melissa, as well as numerous cousins, friends and family.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, a Liturgy will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Point Pleasant Boro First Aid Company or the William J.
