Elmer A. Romero

AGE: 66 • Hillsborough

Elmer A. Romero, 66, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines, Elmer arrived in the United States in 1981 and resided in Jersey City before moving to Hillsborough twenty five years ago. Mr. Romero was the President and Executive Director for Morris County Aftercare Center in Randolph for the past 27 years. Elmer was a communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Somerville and was a member of Aparri Humanitarian International Foundation. Elmer spoke several languages, was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling all over the world, but his favorite destination was Italy. He was very curious about the world around him, especially science and nature. He also enjoyed classical music, listening to Philippine songs (Ilocano/Tagalog), and attending Broadway plays. Elmer was a very giving, generous, and caring person who was always willing to help everyone and he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his wife and children. He was considered to be a father figure and spiritual mentor to many in the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Juanita Romero; and brother, Robert Romero. Surviving are his beloved wife of thirty years, Israelita Isaguirre Romero; his loving son, Mark Romero of Somerville; his cherished daughter, Melanie Romero of Hillsborough; his two brothers, Orlando Romero and his wife, Mila of Quezon City, Philippines and Danilo Romero and his wife, Salvacion of Makati Philippines; his sister, Lorna Tangara of Port Monmouth; his sister-in-law, Norma Romero of Manila, Philippines; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville. Entombment will be in Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Basking Ridge. Lita & Melanie,
My deepest sympathy on the passing of Elmer. It has been many years since we've had contact, however, I remember him coming to the Montessori school to pick up Melanie and what a sweet man he was. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
