Ervin W. "Bill" Barron

AGE: 79 • Englishtown

Ervin W. "Bill" Barron, 79, of Englishtown, formerly of Edison, NJ and Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011, in the Hospice at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Huntington, Long Island, "Bill", as he was known by family and friends, grew up in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, had resided in Edison, NJ for over 40 years before moving to Roanoke, Va. 11 years ago. He resided in Roanoke for six years before moving back to New Jersey and settling in Englishtown. Mr. Barron had been employed as a heating and cooling specialist by Raritan Oil Company, Edison for 24 years before retiring. A compassionate, hardworking, well read individual with a keen mind for politics and finance, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and traveling with his wife. He was a longtime member of the Edison Democratic Party and was a former president of the United Democrats of Middlesex County. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Barron was a life member of the Molly Pitcher American Legion Post #434 and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was passionate in his efforts to make positive changes for the people of Northern Ireland. He was a tireless worker for the Irish Unity Committee and in 2003 helped found the Father Lynch Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Roanoke, Va. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, Englishtown and had been a communicant of St. Matthews RC Church, Edison before moving to Virginia. In Roanoke, he belonged to St. Andrews Catholic Church.

Son of the late Ervin S. and Annie (Doyle) Barron, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy K. (Vadala) Barron, in 2006; and his sister, Velma Viera, in 2005. Surviving are his daughters, Betty L. Schwartz of Englishtown, Patricia A. Parkhurst of Forks Township, Pa., and Wendy M. Barron of Cranbury. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth C. Barretto of Caribou, ME; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 15 at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick. Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, April 16 in the funeral home, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church, New Brunswick. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
