Florence Derrig

Lakewood - Florence Derrig 82, of Lakewood, NJ and Lake Worth, FL passed away on Oct 1st with her loving family by her side. Florence was born and raised in Newark, NJ. She spent many wonderful summers in Spring Lake, NJ where her family had a summer home.

She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University and worked as a merchandiser for various department stores. She later worked for Prudential Insurance for 20 years before taking early retirement to earn her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Monmouth University.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Patrick in 1974 and her son Joseph Patrick Jr. in 1994.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Derrig and her husband Kenneth Swider of Spring Lake, NJ, her son Michael Derrig of East Hampton, NY and his wife Dwyer and three grandchildren, John Swider and Hanna and Michael Derrig. She is also survived by her brother Robert Calabrese (Janice) of Arizona and sisters Dolores Diaz (Joseph) of Farmingdale, NJ and Angela Noblin of Paramus, NJ.

Always the fashionista, her style tips will be fondly remembered by family and friends. Her love and humor will be greatly missed. She was a loving presence in all our lives.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, October 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of Oceanside Memorial Home. For additional information, please visit www.oceansidememorial.com
