Harold Joseph Finkle

AGE: 79 • Jackson

Harold Joseph Finkle, 79, of Jackson, passed away after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Harold was born in Jersey City and resided in Jackson for the past 46 years. Harold proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War when he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the UN Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, and the National Defense Service Medal. Harold was employed by Kimberly Clark in Spotswood as a purchasing agent tot 30 years. After leaving Kimberly Clark, he worked for the Ocean County Library in Toms River for 10 years before his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Jackson. Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6201 and the VFW Post 4703, both in Jackson. Harold loved the Mets, Giants, Nets, Devils and Notre Dame. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Harold was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Agnes Finkle; his wife, Catherine, in 1988; and his son-in-law, Keith Fanning. He is survived by his sons, Harold Finkle Jr. and his wife, Joyce of Pilesgrove, Frank Finkle and his wife, Patricia of Lake Ariel, PA, William Finkle of Plumsted, Gerard Finkle and his wife, Kim of Barnegat, and Keith Finkle of Jackson; his daughters, Clair Fanning of Nashville, TN, and Marilyn Anhorn and her husband, Erik of Jackson; his grandchildren, Christine, Kelsey, Kim, Jenn, Jason, Jamie, Julia, Ryan, Brianna, Tyler, Erik and Brayden; his former daughter-in-law, Janine; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1 Honey Locust Dr., Lakewood. My memories of Harold go back to the early 80's. He was at Kimberly Calrk and I was on the other end of the phone at Raritan Supply. He was the kindest, gentlest and most humble man that I have ever known. I am sorry that I did not see more of him here in Jackson these past few years. Rest in peace, fellow vet.

Harold was one of the best at the Ocean County Library. I always looked forward to his jokes and chatting with him about the Mets and Giants Harold was wonderful, he really will be missed.

I just heard about Harold's passing. My deepest sympathy to his entire family. He loved each of you so much. We talked daily- Jersey City - favorite sports teams and families. He will always be remembered for his hard work and positive attitude. He will always be remembered in my prayers. God bless you all.

Dear Finkle Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of Harold... he was one of the kindest men I ever met...I worked with Harold at Ocean County Library...he always talked about his family... especially his grandchildren...although we agreed on the Mets we didn't agree on our football teams...but that's OK he was always a good sport
