Helen May Carmichael (Buchanan)

- - Helen May Carmichael (Buchanan) passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 8, 2018. She was 98 years old. Helen was born in Orange, New Jersey on January 12, 1920. She was the first of five children of Helen and Robert Buchanan. In 1938, Helen married Charles Walter Carmichael and together they raised five children. In 1999, Helen moved to California to live with her daughter, Nancy. She then moved to Texas in 2005 with Nancy and her family. Helen is survived by her son, Richard Carmichael of Conover, North Carolina, daughters Bonnie O'Neal of Baltimore, Maryland, Nancy Lester of Round Rock, Texas and Sally Schmidt of San Diego, California as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother, Robert Buchanan and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was proceeded in death by her husband Walter Carmichael, her son Charles Carmichael, her grandson, Greg Carmichael and her sisters Elsie, Dorothy and Roberta. Helen was employed at Sears in Neptune, New Jersey for 30 years where she had many friends, especially the late Madeline Draper. She was a member of West Belmar Methodist Church for 25 years and enjoyed attending with her friends. Helen loved God, her church, her many friends, reading, watching movies and traveling but most of all her large family. Everyone that knew her loved her generous and loving nature.

Services will be held at Francioni, Taylor and Lopez Funeral Home. 1200 10th Ave. Neptune City NJ 07753 on Friday December 14 at 11 am. Burial will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park.
