Irene Anderko Obituary
AGE: 92 • Edison
Irene (Zeffer) Anderko, 92, passed away peacefully at her home with her son and his family at her side on Sunday, June 1, 2014. She was born in Perth Amboy, NJ and has been a lifelong resident of Edison. Irene was employed as a Crossing Guard for the Township of Edison for over 33 years as well as being active in the Edison Township Schools PTA and the local Cub Scout Pack many years ago. Irene was a longtime congregant of the Ascension Lutheran Church in New Brunswick, where she was a member of the Church Council. Irene enjoyed reading, baking, music and attending the Hungarian Festival on Somerset Street in New Brunswick. Irene's pride and joy in life were her son and two precious grandchildren.
Irene was predeceased by her parents Peter and Julia (Tompa) Zeffer. She was one of 5 sisters, three have predeceased her, Julia Kalman, Edith Bascelli and Margaret Margolis and her beloved husband of 47 years who passed away in 1992, Michael Anderko. She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law Mark and Colleen Anderko, her cherished grandchildren Abby Marie and Connor James Anderko, her dear sister Emma Drysdale, of Maine and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will take place at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum, corner of Route 27 and Cozzens Lane, North Brunswick, NJ on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Irene Anderko be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 247 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gowen Funeral Home, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.
