AGE: 89 •

Jean M. Carstens, 89, of Cary, North Carolina was born and raised on Staten Island, New York. She lived in Great Kills before moving to New Jersey in 1978 and then to Cary, North Carolina in 2014.

After graduating from New Dorp High School, she graduated from Pace Institute in Manhattan and worked in New York until she married.

She was a member of Deal Golf and Country Club and enjoyed golfing and bowling with her friends. She also loved to go to Long Boat Key, Florida and walk the beaches and collect shells.

She volunteered at the Little Silver Women's Exchange. She was a parishioner and member of the Ushering Committee at The First Presbyterian Church at the Tower Hill in Red Bank, New Jersey. She was a very private and caring person and loving wife of 67 years.

Jean is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Godfrey, plus her son Jeffrey and his wife Jane in Staten Island, her son Richard and his wife Nancy in Cary, North Carolina, her daughter Barbara Oertel and her husband William in Cary, North Carolina, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brian & Steven Carstens, Chelsea & Russell Carstens & Brian, Michael & his wife Shannon Oertel
