John Grund Obituary

John Grund

New Brunswick - John Joseph Grund, known to everyone as Jack, was born on May 23, 1947 in New Brunswick, NJ. Jack passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ. His parents were Emma Varga Grund and John Michael Grund. Jack lived in New Brunswick most of his life. He graduated from New Brunswick High School and received his college degree at Trenton State.

Jack lived in Hillsborough for part of his adult life and continued to work there as a realtor with Weichert Realty. He took great pride in all he did and was a conscientious, kind, and reliable person in all aspects of his life.

Jack loved collecting and running model trains. He enjoyed having a layout and sharing the fun of running the trains. Jack was a member of The Philadelphia Chapter of the PRRT & HS, Inc.

Jack will be sorely missed by his wife, Lyn Cote Grund, and his stepsons, Chris H. Backas (Rachael) and Bryan H. Backas (Elissa). He adored his grandchildren, Lyra Sirene Backas and Owen Edward Backas. He was a loving and caring parent and grandfather. He was a steady rock for his wife as they navigated life together.

Jack has two sisters, Cindy Jucks (Raymond) who lives in NM, and Yolan Arlett who lives in Princeton. He is also survived by a niece, Alexis Kochmann, a nephew, Brad Arlett, and a great-nephew, Nicholas Kochmann and his mother-in-law Beatrice Cote.

This time of year I think of our family gatherings during the holidays at Kiki's and Aunt Emma and Uncle John's on Hamilton Street. I remember Jack as having a beautiful smile that lit up his whole face and fabulous hair. When I was little, I always thought he was so handsome and really looked up to him. He would always spend time with my brother, and Brad and I (plus Squirt) while the adults were in another room "adulting" LOL I have a great picture of he and I dancing at Cindy and Ray's wedding. I think I was maybe 5. I was very sorry to hear of his sudden passing. Thinking of all of you during the holidays. Jack is in good company with the rest of the family in heaven and I know they welcomed him with open arms.

I am shocked to hear of Jack passing. Jack was one of my first childhood (true) friends. Our friendship was constant from elementary school through college. The countless and unique experiences we shared together will not be mentioned. My prayers go out Jack and his family.

One of my favorite memories was cruising up and down Livingston Ave (The Ave) looking to score. I could write a book on the crazy things we did as kids.

Jack was a best friend going back 60 years. We had so much in common from liberal politics to the Los Angeles Dodgers to our love of the Jersey Shore. Buddy,, you are sorely missed. Until the day we meet for a couple beers, rest peacefully my friend.

I've known Jack since 7th grade. He was one of the kindest men I've ever met. He would text me on weekends to tell me of his plans and ask about mine. Lyn and sons, you brought a lot of joy and love into his life and having grandchildren was one of life's pleasures for him. Know that his memory will live on with all who knew him.Sending you my deepest sympathy.....
