John A. "Jack" Nemeth Sr.

John A. "Jack" Nemeth Sr., 70, of South Amboy, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Beloved husband, loving son, father, brother and grandfather, Jack Nemeth was born, raised and lived his entire life in South Amboy. He graduated from Perth Amboy Vocational and Technical High School in 1958 and did a four year tour of duty in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962, serving aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Jack worked briefly for the City of South Amboy, became an iron worker and then worked as a hazardous duty welder for Amtrak until his retirement in 2005. He was a proud volunteer fireman and was a member of Enterprise Snorkel Co. for 49 years. He was also a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association, and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy. Jack was an avid N.Y. Giants fan and watching them play was his favorite pastime. After he retired, he particularly enjoyed watching the games with his pals and fellow veterans of the American Legion Post 45, Perth Amboy.

Son of the late Louis J. Nemeth, who died in 1977, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Clark Nemeth; his son and daughter-in-law, John A. Jr. and Deborah Nemeth of Alexandria, Va.; his daughter, Kimberly DiBenedetto of Sayreville; his mother, Mary H. Nemeth of South Amboy; his sister, Mary Louise McCall of Wildwood Crest; and four grandchildren, Lucas, Noah, Bella and Alexander. He will be dearly missed by his family, his in-laws, Fran and Alfie Clark and everyone who had the privilege of calling him their friend.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7 at The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals", 237 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy. Funeral services will be held at 9am Tuesdayfrom the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.
