Joseph Demeter passed away surrounded by his children on Saturday, February 4, 2017.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as a SEABEE, traveling to Newfoundland, Puerto Rico and Cuba during his tenure. After his Navy career he married his sweet girl back home, Leona Koc, and started his family.

Joe worked as a Plant Safety Manager for Dupont in Linden, and was a fixture at the Woodbridge auction on Wednesdays and Saturdays, where he operated his snack bar. He retired after 25 years then owned and operated the Corner Kitchen in Iselin with his wife for a decade. After closing up shop, he went on to work at the Glove and Safety Company in New Brunswick. Joe was an avid photographer and videographer who loved documenting Veteran's functions, family gatherings, and church events. He adored animals and all things having to do with nature.

He was predeceased by his wonderful wife Leona in 2006, and is survived by his devoted and dearly loved Son and daughter-in-law Joe and Leslie Demeter of Tinton Falls, and daughter Marylee Demeter of Williamstown. Also surviving are his loyal and loving sister Flo Brenner of Pittsburgh, PA, and equally loving and supportive brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joseph and Emily Russo of Florida. Joe had an amazing assortment of nieces, nephews, and friends of all ages.

He will be missed by all, especially his dear friend and companion Margot Lowell of Staten Island and by his beloved faith family of the Church of Ascension in Staten Island, NY. Joe devoted his life to honoring military members past, present, and future, as well as the protection of animals.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday February 9, 2017 at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 1225 Green St. Iselin, NJ 08830 (www.costello-runyon.com); with funeral services on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia.

At his request, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the USO, Freedom Service Dogs, and Woodbridge Animal shelter.
