Deacon Joe C. Kemper

AGE: 102 • Mt. Pleasant, SC

Deacon Joseph C. Kemper entered into eternal rest in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Deacon Joe was a former long time New Brunswick resident. After the death of his wife Eleanor in 1958, he was able to follow his lifelong dream to dedicate his life to the Church. He then moved to Charleston, SC and was ordained the first permanent Deacon in 1971, and began what was to become 33 years of service to the Diocese of Charleston. He will always be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched and enriched.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph E. Kemper of Hamilton, Thomas A. Kemper of Hainesport, two daughters Eleanor Rich of Monroe Twp., and Claire Johnson of Charlottesville VA, a brother Vincent of Deltona FL, eight grandchildren Patti Hobson, Jackie Molnar, Kimberly Lukas, Michael Rich, Laurie Krull, Lenore Ebneter, Jodi Jensen and Keith Christiansen, sixteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law Joseph Curry. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor McDermott Kemper, five sisters, Ann Krauszer, Agnes Runyon, Lodi Kemper, Ceil Curry, Margaret McNamara and four brothers Benjamin Kemper, Frank Kemper, Gerald Kemper and Ralph Kemper.

Funeral Services and Mass will be held on Monday, June 27 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
