Joseph Palica Obituary

Joseph Michael Palica

Avenel - Joseph Michael Palica passed away on December 21, 2020 at his home in Avenel, New Jersey. Born August 6, 1950 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Helen (Kowalishen) Palica and husband of the late Joyce (Smith) Palica, Joe is survived by his sister Nancy (Palica) Hannell, brother-in-law Bill Hannell, and niece Kristin Elizabeth Hannell.

Joe served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of Avenel VFW Post 7164 for over 25 years, serving as post commander (2008-2009) and then District 8 commander (2014-2015).

Joe found true joy in rescuing Pit Bulls (or any 2 or 4-legged creature that was down on their luck and needed a friend or a place to stay). He was a generous man, always quick to smile with a knack for making people happy often while he was DJ-ing, with his motorcycle or fast car, or just sharing a cup of coffee.

His sister and family would like to thank his VFW family who helped us during this difficult time. Special thanks to Mike Glasson, "Real" Bob Laughlin, Jerry Malone and Margaret Russo for their help and support and especially to Debbie & Joe Nelson for adopting Pickles (his pit bull mix) - Joe saved Pickles & Pickles saved him!

Services will be held 11AM Friday, May 14 at Brigadier William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodbridge Animal Group (WAG), PO Box 133, Sewaren, NJ 07077 or adopt a pet of your choosing or just be kind to all animals.
