Kenneth Rogers, 89, of South Amboy died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Briarwood Care Center, Morgan. Born in South Amboy, he lived there all of his life. Before retiring he was a self-employed contractor in South Amboy for 43 years. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, South Amboy. A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he served on the Islands of Eniwetok, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He served on the South Amboy City Council from 1973 to 1976. A licensed airplane pilot, he was also a member of the South Amboy Rotary Club, serving as 2nd vice president in 1974-75. Ken was a minor league pitcher, playing for the Macon Peaches and Birmingham Barons in the South Atlantic League and in 1947 played in the Canadian American League.

Son of the late Walter and Mary Rogers, he was also predeceased by his wife, Julia Rogers and his brother, Walt Rogers. He is survived by his sons, Tom Rogers of South Amboy and Ken Rogers of North Brunswick; his daughters, Mary "Bunny" Kutz of Red Bank and Jeanne Rogers and her fiance, David Pitkin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, Brian Kutz and his wife, Maryann, Rebecca Murphy and her husband Eric, and Joseph Trpisovsky and 4 great grandchildren, Mason, Chandler, Savannah and Evan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 4, 2014 at 11am at The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by private cremation. Ken and Julia will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
